Single flashback
Tú - Stay With Me [1987]
OK, I’m so sorry, but I have to get this out of the way…
“Wonder Twin powers, activate!”
If you know my Super Friends pals Zan, Jayna, and Gleek you’re happy I brought them up.
Meanwhile, in 1987, identical twins Amanda and Cassandra Di Blasi may not have had super powers, but they did have a couple of dance hits that hit the mainstream.
Classically trained at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music, the sisters were singing background vocals around town for a number of artists, including Platinum Blonde.
The Blonde’s producer, Bruce Barrow, took the duo under his wing and subsequently produced both of their albums.
The debut record was self-titled and written primarily by the Di Blasis. There was also a notable cover, which I will circle back to later. It spent nine weeks on the album chart, peaking at #94.
Stay With Me | peaked #19, 1987
This MuchMusic ready video has all of those 1987 trappings you’d come to expect. Beautiful girls wearing beautiful clothes in many steamy settings. And the hair is magnificent.
The song itself is dance floor ready and saw success in Europe as a 12” with remixed versions and a tour of Germany.
Wondering if the Disco Doctor has this one in his collection - The Twelve Inch (Disco/80s) ?
The Language Of Love | peaked #88, 1988
The albums lead-off track and second single is a little more my speed. The funkiest of guitar licks is the bedrock and there’s a nice solo, as well.
The vocals are vibrant, and there is something about the tone that siblings achieve singing together. At least I think so.
Production is very on point for the era, with similar vibes to Jam/Lewis.
Le Freak - Tú Freak | did not chart
If you’re gonna do a cover, swing for the fences I always say.
For context, Chic’s signature hit was not even ten years old when Tú did their cover.
I like the performance and the moxie of any artist that chooses to self-namedrop.
Tú released their second LP ‘Secrets In The Dark’ two years later. While it didn’t see mainstream success it was enough to launch another tour of Europe where the punters were more into polished pop.
Not sure what the twins are up to now, but I bet they have some stories to tell.

So strange that I don’t remember their songs but I recognized them right away! I must’ve watched their videos and their music just didn’t stick in my brain-but yes, the hair is magnificent 😊
Completely unknown to me 😁. You say it was a success in Germany in 1987? I had not heard any of the songs, and I was doing my military service there in 1987, so you would think I should have come across it then. Clearly it did not stick with me, that is for sure.
