Very proud to say that he was my MP, but had I met him, I likely would have put my foot in my mouth by confessing that I was always a bigger fan of his brother Pete (and the Skydiggers).

lol. No shame in that. Bet he’d have laughed it off.

I suspect you're right and likely would have agreed with me, LOL!

I'd never heard of L’etranger but know who Charlie Angus is of course. I also hadn't heard "Boomtown". Thanks for this!

My pleasure, as always 🫑

i also forgot about Boomtown. Great tune. Musicians who became politicians is a great topic for an expanded essay! I nominate you!

Not sure if they’d be keen on that comparison! But they have exported some fantastic music over the years.

I know, New Zealand is really the Canada of the Southern Hemisphere. I saw the last US show from Midnight Oil (unless they reunite for another tour one day), and it was fantastic. I got to talk to Peter Garrett back in 1985 when he was doing a college radio tour, when he was doing a fan Q&A. Can’t remember what I asked him, but I recall him being super friendly.

I’ve been lucky to see the Oils three times. I’d go again tomorrow if I could.

It’s a topic all right. All the interesting ones aren’t Canadian, though. Like Peter Garrett πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί

Australia is the Canada of the southern hemisphere so they’re allowed for your criteria.;)
